DEFINE vs DESCIBE

Long ago, under the tutelage of art god Mark D. Nelson, I launched my quest to "describe" a subject vs. "define" it. Provide just enough visual "information" without beleaguering it. This dovetails with a familiar refrain among artists that they "just want to loosen up" their painting. Plus, many sage and successful painters assert that viewers of art want to mentally complete the piece themselves. Do you agree?

Once again, as I return to the easel for another year, I'm recommitting to "describing" vs. "defining." This dovetails with my continued interest in abstract composition (as in the more representational piece here) as well as colorist abstraction in the landscape (the abstracted piece). Though these two pieces are landscape-driven, I'm attempting to apply the principal across the spectrum of subject matter.

Both pieces are available via my studio, by the way. [email protected]

Have a vibrant day!
